Falling Springs Falls
Falling Springs falls in Alleghany County Virginia.
St. Mary's Wilderness
Cassie and I did this hike after work last Wednesday. Feels good to get outside after a day at the office.
Atlantic Coast Pipeline
Sections of cleared trees, markers and signs mark the path of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline near Wintergreen VA. The ACP is one of two Dominion Power natural gas pipelines that will start in West Virginia, cut through Virginia and end in North Carolina. The ACP once completed will be around 600 miles long and will come through the Jefferson National Forest in western VA then come just south of Staunton and cut through Virginia's Blue RIdge then head south to Carolina, with a section that will spur off and head to Norfolk. Locals of the Shenandoah Valley are concerned that the Dominion pipeline will harm the local ecosystem and possibly contaminate streams and rivers in the area. The ACP will cut through a section of the mountains that I have come to know very well over the time I've lived here.
Elliot Knob
My friends from college came down to visit me in Staunton. We hiked Elliot Knob just west of Staunton. It's a challenging hike but has a great reward at the top.
Veach Gap
Went for a hike with my lovely wife Cassie a couple of weeks ago near Front Royal, VA.
Colorado
Cassie and I went to Colorado this October for our anniversary. We both agree it's one of the most beautiful states we've hiked. There's so much beauty there, pictures just don't do it justice. We'll definately be back for more.
Apple Orchard Falls
Photos from our hike at Apple Orchard Falls, a 5.5 mile loop. There are some great camping spots but the highlight is the 200 foot falls.
Outer Banks
My friend Joe having some fun even though the waves weren't that big.
Mt. Rogers
Cassie and I went to Mt. Rogers for Memorial Day weekend. She had never been before. Despite having a cold, she was determined to see the wild ponies.
Mt. Pleasant Recreation Area
My wife and I hiked the Mount Pleasant recreation area on Easter Sunday, large portions of the forest showed signs of a wildfire that spread through the area last year.
Washington D.C. 2/25/17
Washington D.C. 2/25/17. I have 2 sets of images from my trip to D.C. the first set below takes a journalistic approach with images pertaining to politics, transportation, tourism, and the National Parks Service. Hover over a image to see a description. The second set is a series of images created from an artistic standpoint.
Trinidad
Cassie and I do a lot of traveling, but we do what I call discount traveling. Which means a lot of road trips, camping and staying at houses of our friends.
In July, Cassie and I went to visit some of her extended family in Trinidad. Her cousin and his wife were getting married on the island and we were fortunate enough to join them in the celebration. We had a great experience, granted this wasn't one of those post card Caribbean vacations were you sit in a beach chair all day and sip pina coladas. We stayed at a community center owned by family, meet a bunch of locals and ate some amazing food. We're thankful to all the people we meet and for the great hospitality.
Quebec Honeymoon
Cassie and I went to Quebec, Canada for our honeymoon and had a blast. We explored Quebec City went to Chute-Montmorency, Ile de Orleans, and Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier. Quebec definitely made us feel at home with their warm hospitality and the most amazing french onion soup I've ever had.
Backpacking
I went for a solo backpacking trip this past weekend near Lexington VA. I only did a two day one night trip but it was still a lot of fun. Cassie was down in Florida, so I thought it was a great time for getting back to nature. Here are some of the pictures I took along the way, and yes I decided to lug my digital camera around on this trip just to take these photos.
High Knob Fire Tower Hike
Cassie and I hiked to the High Knob fire tower on the border of Virginia and West Virginia. We started from the Brandywine Recreation Area and from there its straight up the mountain. It was only a 6 mile hike but one of the hardest six miles I've ever done. On the way up it was straight up at a very steep angle with no switchbacks. I thought the way down would be easier but it was not. Going down was quicker but still challenging due to the lose rocks and steep grade. The reward at the top was worth the challenge though.
